The Best of ACC.13: Take Home Messages for the Clinician will provide the most cutting-edge science and education from the world’s premier cardiology event, ACC.13, in an innovative, one-and-a-half day course.

Learner Objectives
The overall goal of this course is to enhance the knowledge and competency of the participants by providing the most up-to-date developments in the diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular disease applying this information in their clinical practice to the cardiovascular patient.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Acute Coronary Syndromes
Describe and synthesize current data being presented at ACC.13 in the context of guidelines-based care. Assess and implement evidence– and ACC/AHA guideline-based antithrombotic, anticoagulant and fibrinolytic therapies for patients with ACS

Prevention
Review current expert recommendations for managing CVD risk in a range of patient populations and apply in practice as appropriate. Assess current best practices and emerging treatments for dyslipidemia and apply them in day-to-day cardiology practice

Heart Failure (includes: Pericardial/Myocardial Disease/Pulmonary Hypertension)
Diagnose, evaluate and manage complex heart failure syndromes, including acute decompensated heart failure, diastolic heart failure and cardiorenal syndrome, according to current evidence-based best practices. Utilize interventional approaches, including implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization, sensor-based devices and ventricular assist devices, as appropriate for their patients with advanced heart failure. Select appropriate treatment strategies for pulmonary arterial hypertension based on guideline recommendations and clinical evidence

Arrhythmias
Select appropriate device therapy for sudden death prevention in heart failure patients and manage device related complications. Compare and utilize pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies for atrial fibrillation appropriately, including novel anticoagulants
Accurately detect and manage ECG abnormalities or arrhythmias of concern during screening of asymptomatic young adults or evaluation of patients with syncope

Chronic CAD/Stable Ischemic Heart Disease/Vascular Medicine
Outline and evaluate the benefits, limitations and guideline changes and interventional strategies related to the medical management of SIHD. Review the fundamentals of diagnostic evaluation and management in patients with peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and venous thromboembolism. Describe the benefits, limitations and optimal patient selection for endovascular approaches to the management of aortic and peripheral arterial disease

Valvular Heart Disease
Determine appropriate referral and surgical timing to improve patient outcomes. Incorporate best practice guidelines into optimal treatment strategies for patients presenting with valvular heart disease

Target audience
The Best of ACC.13 is intended for all professionals involved in delivering cardiovascular care, with particular emphasis on physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physicians assistants and nurses.
